Calling All Fat Brides

God It’s been forever since I’ve posted. My life has gotten complicated in my last year of school. I’m working two jobs, going to school full time, am Vice President of an organization, and am getting ready to graduate and start the next chapter of my life. I’ve had some mental health issues this year and I’m working on taking care of those issues….

But…

I’M ENGAGED!! :D I got engaged in January. My fiance and are are very happy, I love him so much, and I’m excited to be planning a wedding.

In conjunction with my engagement, I’m doing a research project on being a fat bride for my last Women Studies course of my college career.

So… Calling all FAT BRIDES!! Those who are engaged, who are thinking about their weddings, or who have already gotten married. Those who identify as straight or as lgbtq. Those from all backgrounds.

What does it mean to be a fat bride? What does it mean to defy traditional gender performances that dictate that one must lose weight before her wedding? In what ways are fat brides oppressed and ostracized from bridal culture?

I’m feeling too many of them right now. I hate crying but I feel so hurt, embarrassed, and stupid. I even hate posting shit like this but I’m so…emotional….right now that I just need an outlet.

I didn’t expect to feel like this, especially the night before school starts, and I really need to get it together. It just really sucks.

Really, really sucks.

Boxing just made it’s way into the Olympics this year. So Claressa’s name is in the history books as the one to beat.

As she worked her 33-year-old Russian Nadezda Torlopova opponent over, she put on a good show displaying her speed and strength.

And once she got on the winner’s podium, Claressa put her hand over her heart and laughed. She was a clear crowd favorite and was the reason many folks came to the match.
